Sorry we've had no posts but we've been off the grid. No cell service and no internet in the mountains. We had a laundry day in Silver CityNM. It is a funky kind of southwest city with Cowboys, saloons, art galleries and nice restaurants. There is a campus of UNM here so that adds to eclectic nature of the place. We enjoyed it.
We left Silver for the mountains and have been three days here in the birding mecca of the Coronado National Forest. the weather has been good and we've seen some really interesting birds. We are very close to the US Mexican border so some US birds can only be seen here. We've gotten some good photos and several life birds (never seen before). We are still trying to see the elegant trogon maybe tomorrow. The camping is more primitive here so no electric, etc but we have heat (used every morning) and refrigeration and weather so we've been fine. all of our camping has been good in the national and state parks we pay as little as $3 per night with a high of $10. When we camp in the RV parks we pay about $34 per night. We have meet some nice people especially here in the mountains, people always wiling to share the experiences which we've found very helpful. Maryanne asked about meals - most we have cooked and they are pretty simple grilled chicken, pork chops, steak (good here in cattle country), salads and some grilled veggies. It's hard to get seafood so not much of that. We have a good cooking setup so we can perk coffee and cook breakfasts. Not tired of it yet!!
Tomorrow we are heading toward the Petrified Forest NP.

Sounds exciting glad you are enjoying evrrything! Are you biking or doing things on foot ?
Are you planning to go gold mining ?
Have only had the bikes out once - got a flat tire within first few minutes. :(
But truthfully has not been biking terrain.
We have mostly been "hiking" (on flat trails!) and birding (which means you get to stop every few minutes to scan the trees!!).
Hope you continue to have a good time & not tire of it. Joe is enjoying the blog & finds it exciting. Mother Nature is in a funk & it may last several more days. Did you bypass Taos already?
I have friends who moved from Mt. Airy to Silver City. They love it there. Carolyn
