Santa Fe

We have driven north to SF and are camping in a national forest about 8 miles north of SF.  It is at 8300 ft and quite rustic.  We intend to stay here for 4-5 days as we tour around this area.  One of the nice things about traveling in the shoulder season is nothing is crowded and we have no trouble getting campsites, or seeing attractions often we find ourselves as the only people there.  The one downside of the shoulder season is it was 31 degrees and snowing lightly this morning.  Fortunately we have our trusty heater to warm us until the sun does.  Daytime temps have been in the 60-70s so it's really only the early morning that has been cold.  Cold enough though that we've ruled out going into the Rockies with their 14000 foot peaks and single digit overnight temps.
The SF area really shows the Spanish influence on the local culture.  The culture is a fusion of Spanish, Native American and the third largest ethnic group here aging hippies.  Many of the structures in SF are from the 1700s and all are made of adobe. No structure in the center city is more than two stories high.  It really is a unique capitol city.  Lots of art galleries, restaurants and coffee shops - kind of like an upscale New Hope.  We spent a pleasant day walking around the city seeing the mission churchs, eating well and soaking in the sun.

Kathy & Carole-Santa Fe is a great spot to visit. Since you plan to be there 4-5 days I hope you have time to visit the Loretto Museum(former Church) with the miraculous staircase. Also, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum with her famous flowers & Mexican paintings. They may already be on your itinerary. Santa Fe has great Tex-Mex food & drinks.Great pics & hope interesting & fun.

Hey BooBoo. Check out the El Rey Inn for a bit of old Route 66. I think you can walk through the property.
